Audra is a unique artist because of her range and range of her skills as a songwriter and performer. McDonald's debut as a dramatic actor on television was on the Peabody Award-winning CBS program Having Our Say The Delany Sisters' first 100 years. Her next role was that of a regular actor on NBC's Law & Order Special Victims Unit where she starred alongside Kathy Bates and Victor Garber. McDonald's Emmy nominated performance as Emma Thompson on Mike Nichols' HBO film adaptation of Pulitzer Prize winner Wit was directed by Mike Nichols. McDonald's return to television networks came in 2003 when she starred with Josh Brolin in Mister Sterling. Then, in the beginning of 2006, she joined the crew of The Bedford Diaries on the WB. The Bedford Diaries and over the course of the season, she was the role of a regular on the NBC television show Kidnapped. In 2016, McDonald was nominated for the fourth Emmy Award for her appearance on HBO's Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill, a film-special. She also appeared in 2021 when she was a co-star alongside Taylor Schilling and Steven Pasquale in the film The Bite, a pandemic drama that was co-produced between Spectrum Originals and CBS Studios. McDonald first played U.S. lawyer Liz Lawrence (now Liz Reddick), in CBS's law-and-order thriller The Good Wife, in 2009. In 2018, she recast that role in The Good Fight for Paramount+ as a regular in the series. Her performance received three Critics Choice Award Nominations. Presently, she is a guest star in Julian Fellowes' historical drama The Gilded Age, which airs on HBO.
